Various Updates

Should I do this all in one update or split it up? Hmmm. Well, we’ll see how it goes here.

First, I’m 21 weeks and 1 day now. This munchkin moves a lot and the movements are fairly uncomfortable at times already. Not a good sign for when he/she gets bigger! This one moves mostly around bedtime right now. Stephen is able to feel some of the movements from the outside, and actually was able to feel some of them the evening of the day of our ultrasound, which was 17 6/7 wks. Crazy huh? We still don’t have any strong feelings one way or another as far as gender is concerned. I’ve had boy baby dreams, and Stephen has had a girl baby dream. HA! As far as the pregnancy, this has been a combo of both of the other pregnancies, so no clear indication that way either as far as gender is concerned. So, I guess God really wants us to be surprised!!  I’ve only had Stephen take a couple of pictures this pregnancy, neither of which I think actually show my tummy very well. Poor clothing choices–very loose and a bit unflattering, if I am honest! Here they are. First two are 20 1/7 wks (taken last Friday) followed by the 2nd two pics, which are me at 20 1/2 wks pregnant with Colby for comparison.

These next two are from 21 wks (taken last night. should’ve done a little make-up work before taking these!)

Sad that we don’t have our backyard tree anymore that we took the other 2 pregnancy pictures by. I’ll try to take some better pictures next time!

Colby is currently on antibiotics for a sinus infection. He had a croupy cough at night for a couple of weeks and then I emailed his pediatrician. She prescribed him a short 3 day script of steroids, which seemed to help while he was on them, and then for a couple of days afterwards. Then the bark returned. That next week, he started running a fever, and it got as high as 101.8 axillary (therefore 102.8). He stayed home from school one day. Then, he seemed better for a day, and then the fever returned for a night. Then, I left town for the weekend (good mom, huh?).  Stephen said he seemed ok on the weekend, but took a really long nap on Saturday. Anyway, on Monday (this week), I decided to take him to the doctor. I was tired of hearing the barking at night. So, sinus infection was his diagnosis. He gets Amox for 2 wks. Good thing is that he loves it!

Another notable thing for Colby was his injury a few weeks ago. I was upstairs with the kids. I was sitting in the doorway of the guest room, prepping things for a consignment sale. He and Abs were playing in the playroom and their rooms, having a good time. Well, Colby then says, “nose” as he comes to me. I look up and was like , OH! This is what I saw. These pictures are actually a few days after the incident. We put new skin on it to help it heal, as there was no way to actually put a real band-aid on it. Oh, and after these pictures were taken, he aggravated his injury one day when he was in Stephen’s care (thankful that not all accidents occur on my clock!). He fell and hit a stool with his face, and reopened part of the cut and made another cut on the tip of his nose. Poor guy!

Sadly, I have no idea how he did this! It was a  pretty good cut! Neither he nor his sister could explain the injury. And, Colby never even cried!!  I inspected all over upstairs and cannot figure out what he did. He still has a scar on his nose. Hopefully, it will go away completely.

Abriella took swimming lessons last month. Sure, I could attempt to teach her, but I decided to let someone else to start her off. Trust me, I think that was the better choice! 🙂 Here are a couple of pictures of her on her first day.

I can’t say she truly enjoyed the lessons, but she said she did. She was not a fan of going underwater, but she would with the teacher at every lesson. She took 4 lessons. However, since lessons have ended, she has been putting her head underwater in the bathtub every bath and will even leave her head underwater for 5 or more seconds!! So, maybe there is hope for her after all. She will learn how to swim at some point. We’ll do lessons again in the future. I don’t care if she is a competitive swimmer like me, but I do want her to know how to swim…and not like her daddy, who looks like he’s drowning when he “swims!” HA!

This month, we started back with gymnastics after the month off for swim lessons. She did GREAT her first day back last week. Didn’t seem to be affected by her month off, except in the positive. She did better than I’ve ever seen her do, I think. I have her signed up for once a week (hour long class). Well, interestingly enough, at this lesson, the gymnastics coach noticed her (she was coaching her gymnasts). She was shocked that she was only 4 and had just turned 4. She first noticed her when they were stretching. Abriella is crazy limber and can do splits like it’s a walk in the park. The coach said to me across the gym that she could have her ready to compete in 2 yrs, which is when she can start competing anyway. Then, later, she came over to me and said she’d like to have her in one of her classes, which are by invitation only. They are for kids like Abriella that appear to have natural talent. Currently, the class meets a little too late for Abriella, so the coach said she’d try to get another earlier class open, or if Abriella is able to go to that later class at some point, she wants her!  So, maybe we have a little gymnast on our hands!

In other news, she has been trying to read lately. She picks out books and she tries to sound out the words, and I think she does a pretty good job. I just don’t know really how to guide her much, so I may get some kind of book that helps me to help her more. She learns a lot off of starfall.com and I think that’s where she learns most of it, besides us reading to her all the time. It’s funny because she goes around doing the phonics for letters all the time. Well, Colby is always watching her, of course. So, you’ll hear him going around, saying, “ah, mmm, uhh,” doing his phonics. HA!

Back to Colby. First, he still doesn’t nap at school. He’s the only one, I think. He lays there quietly, but doesn’t sleep. He fell asleep one day, but that must have been an accident on his part. ~sigh~ He is soooo hard to deal with after school. Whiny, aggressive, and just plain aggravating. He gets to go to bed early on those days. Then, he has been driving us nuts at night lately. He will come out of his room, ever so stealth-like, and come all the way down the stairs and come into our room, and then stand beside our bed and quietly say, “go potty.”  I guess he’s figured out that that’s one of the only ways we will get up for him. Sneaky. Most of those times, he does go potty, but we have him in a diaper at night, so it is NOT our desire to potty train him at night, yet! He will do this even at like 3 in the morning! ~uggh~ Stephen gets the brunt of this. I have asked him if he will do the upstairs kid duty right now, and he has graciously agreed, although I’m sure he’s not enjoying it. If I walk up and down those stairs at night, I get out of breath, my heart rate goes up a bit, and then I can’t get back to sleep for a long time. The baby in utero tends to wake up, too, so then I have fetal movements to keep me up as well.   So, Stephen is sweet enough to take over at night right now. Thanks, babe!

Colby is definitely 2 right now! His favorite things to say are “NO, I not! No, I not do it! NO! NO!” You know, those fun 2 yr old phrases. He likes to aggravate his sister and bite her. I think she is his primary victim of biting. Now that I type this, I realize it’s been a few days since he’s taken a bite of her…knock on wood!

Stephen is doing good at work. A few weeks ago, they officially got their product certified by the government! That was a huge milestone for their company! So thankful for that! That consumed lots of his time for a few months as they tried to get everything together to pass that certification. We are getting ready to sell our red car. His boss’s college age daughter is our buyer. We now need to get another vehicle so that we are not a one-car family! We want a vehicle that is able to fit 3 car seats. My little protege cannot. Obviously, our mini van can, but we would like our 2nd vehicle to be able to as well, in case something happens to the van or something. So, Stephen is looking at trucks, i.e. a Ford F-150 type situation. Of course, we don’t want to break the bank either. We do not plan on having a car payment after becoming debt-free, so we’re scouring craigslist and the like to find something we can pay cash for and move on. Pray that the right thing comes along quickly!

Well, you have been very patient to stay with me on this post (IF anyone is still reading!). Here are a few more pictures to make you smile.

  1. Hey Jennifer! Great post and update on your family…we sure miss y’all! We think we’ll be in town next weekend to wrap up some things on our Christmas light business.

Good luck on finding your second vehicle.

The kids look so cute…is that Abriella as a Transformer?! Funny!
