Hey Everyone! Well, the wonderful thing about working in an OB Clinic is that there are lots of resources, i.e. ultrasounds. I’ve been good so far at not grabbing one of the machines to see what was going on inside. Today, however, I wanted some proof that there really was something that was causing this fun with 24-7 sickness (whoever decided on the “morning sickness” term?!?). So, one of the other midwives and I went back to ask one of the ultrasound techs if she’d take a look. Of course, she obliged happily. I got to see our bean with the heart just a beating away, strong as anything! It was cool! I had already asked Stephen if he minded if I did this one day. He said he didn’t mind at all. Of course, I called him right afterwards to tell him the great news. The tech also measured our bean, and he/she measures right on schedule! And, she only saw one bean, which made me happy. I’d been having crazy dreams about twins, so I was relieved to see only one. My midwife colleague did say, “You know, Jennifer, they can miss twins on these early sonos too.” ARRGGHH!! I feel very confident that there is only one in there though. Anyway, it was great to see the heart beating so strong!
Now, on to my wonderful husband! I’ve been having some adventures with this nausea and vomiting, and it’s really hard to deal with when working so much too. Well, Tuesday, I called in sick, and my clinic was covered by several providers. I slept all day that day, which was greatly needed. Then, Wednesday, we went to my first prenatal visit at Austin Area Birthing Center, which was fine, normal. Had my blood drawn and a physical done. Great place and great midwives there. They even tried to recruit me to work there while we were there. HAHA! They take too much call there. No way! Well, back to the husband part. I’ve been trying numerous things to help with the nausea/vomiting, all things that I tell my own patients. I finally decided that the simple “eat six times a day” and “eat something before you even get out of bed” really seems to help. Well, crackers doesn’t usually cut it in the mornings. So, Stephen has been fixing me breakfast and bringing it to me. Well, on my days off, that wasn’t very early. But, today, I actually went to work, and I get up at 6:00 am. Well, Stephen doesn’t usually get up until around 7:30. BUT, he woke up at 6:00 today and fixed me a scrambled egg (good protein) and a piece of toast! Then, he went back to bed! It made my day sooo much better! What a fabulous husband!! KUDOS TO STEPHEN!!!
Anyway, thanks for all the well-wishers so far! We will keep you updated. Continue to pray for a healthy pregnancy with us!
