Yesterday, Abriella was 2 weeks old. We went to our 2 week appointment, and she is now up to 7 lbs! By 2 weeks, the goal is for babies to at least be back up to their birth weight. She met and exceeded that. She only had lost 2 oz at her 3 day appointment, so that was a good start. So, anyway, she is obviously feeding well. Her cord fell off yesterday too. Finally! I was tired of that ugly thing hanging on. Nice to not have to avoid that anymore.
Being a stay-at-home mom is a bit challenging. She is having some occasional gas issues, so that makes her a little more challenging at times. I do look forward to when Stephen is home for lunch and after work. At least there is an extra set of hands then. Fatigue is the biggest factor in all of this, I’m sure. The more tired you are, the less reserves you have for dealing with different things. But, it will get better, I hope.
Breastfeeding is challenging too. If I could just get past all the pain and soreness, I think I’d be a lot better off. I keep waiting for that to pass. I can see why many people give up on breastfeeding though. It’s not necessarily as easy as some may say. If I wasn’t so stubborn, I can see how some of these sleepless nights, I could just pull out a bottle and hand her over to Stephen and let him feed her. I will start pumping some bottles in a week or so though, so that will hopefully help. Stephen can help with some of the night feedings that way. I’ve read where you should introduce that around 3-4 weeks if you want to do that, and not after 6 weeks. So, that is the plan.
Anyway, we’re hanging in there. It’s real hard to get a newborn into a routine as well. I don’t think they understand what that means! So, we’re just trying to go with the flow for now! Hope everyone else is doing well!
