5 Years!

Yesterday, Stephen and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years! And, to me, the reason is not that wow, it’s “already” been 5 years, but actually that really, it’s “only” been 5 years?! I think that sounds bad, but I totally mean it in a good way. I feel like I’ve been with Stephen for so much longer, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! It seems we’ve done so much in our 5 years together, that surely, we must have been married longer.

We met in Houston at the Memorial church of Christ sometime in the fall of 2002 (don’t even know when!), and really, neither one of us was really impressed with the other, well in a romantic way that is. He thought I was nice, but not his type. I thought he was nice, but really not my type! He pulled off the computer nerd vibe really strong! Anyway, long story short, we realized that we were totally for each other, and started dating in March of 2003. On June 10, 2003 (yes, 3 months later), we were engaged. On November 8th, 2003, we shared our wedding vows. We haven’t looked back once!

We spent our honeymoon in the Bahamas, which is great in November! Then, back to Houston, where he moved into my apartment in the Texas Medical Center. I was working as a Certified Nurse Midwife for Baylor College of Medicine, working at lots of surrounding clinics, and doing deliveries at Ben Taub Hospital. Stephen was working as a Software Engineer at a company in Sugarland (I’d name the company, but I can’t remember right now!). Anyway, a little over a month later, we signed for a house in Missouri City (suburb, if you will, outside of Houston). We closed on December 19th, just before Christmas! Then, January of 2005 (just over a year later), we moved here to Belton (how that came about is kind of a long story too). We moved to an apartment for a while, since we still had to sell our house in Houston. So, we went from a 2 story, 4 bedroom house, to a 1 story, 2 bedroom apartment (plus a big ole storage unit!). Needless to say, we were going a little crazy before too long. Our house sold, and we landed upon the house we are currently in, which we moved into in November of that same year.

I worked diligently at Darnall Army Med Center as a Certified Nurse Midwife while Stephen worked for Sagus International. Then, he took out on his own and started his own business of ACX Technologies with Jeremiah. They both were being challenged by that task. Jeremiah pulled out to better support his new family. Stephen kept plodding along for a little while. Then, he decided maybe his own business was not his dream afterall. He decided, “been there, done that, bought the t-shirt,” moving on. We were then expecting our first child. He then was hired on at McLane.

July of 2007 was when we welcomed Abriella into our lives. I began my new adventure as a stay-at-home-mom. I continued to work on a per diem status as a midwife at Darnall. Now, we are nearly 13 weeks into our second pregnancy. By the grace of God, we will welcome our second child around May of 2009. WHEW!! Doesn’t that seem like a lot of stuff!? Ok, maybe I just think it is. I’m sure lots of others have done way more in shorter times. Anyway, I look back and think, wow, we did all of that in 5 years!

I’ve LOVED it though! Stephen is the love of my life. I can’t imagine being with anybody else. We had a very smooth transition from the single life to married life.  I think it was a blessing that I was already 25 and he was 23. We both had already been away from home and had full-time careers. It just seemed to make it all very easy. Well, I’m confident God had the most to do with that ease of transition!  Anyway, I look forward to spending many, many more years with my Stephen. I pray God will continue to bless us, and that we can bless others. We are so incredibly blessed!

Here are a few snapshots from our beginning. The wedding pictures are just candids taken by Chrissy, I believe.  Enjoy!

    Hey Jenn-

If you are 13 weeks along you are perfect for my nerdy chemistry experiment on your urine! You interested? I could get some and send it your way. If you’re interested shoot me an email and we’ll figure something out. I think it is best from 12-16 weeks fetus age.

Talk to you later and enjoyed the 5 year recap.
